President's Day or as we call it Boy's day out!

Dad took President's day off and after doing some chores and a few emails, Thomas and Dad set out on a walkabout. First Lesson: check the train schedule BEFORE you go there. We had to kill 90 minutes. So, we went to BW3's had some chicken, played some video games and talked about lots of stuff and nothing at all.

Then we got on the train. While it wasn't Thomas' first train ride, having gone on the Elmhurst "polar express" this past winter, it was however, the first time he got to sit on the top portion. This seemed to be a BIG deal for Thomas and I went along with it. We arrived at the Oglvey Transportation Center (old northwestern station) and Thomas got to hear all about how mom and dad met and fell in love in that very building on the 25th floor when we both worked at SSA. We walked across the Chicago River, past the Civic Opera and down Wacker Drive on our way to .....the SEARS TOWER!
We sat throught the Video and learned a great deal about the Sears tower- here are some interesting facts. It was the tallest building in the world for over 25 years. only recently being beaten out by some buildings in Asia.

It is still the tallest building on the North American Continent.

There is enough telephone wire in the bulding to go across the USA 15 times!!After we left the Tower, I explain how to call a cab and Thomas "hailed" his first cab. Dad had a firm grip on his son while he leaned out and waved and whistled the taxi down. Then it was off to the Art Institue of Chicago. We looked at the battle axes and swords and the suits of Armor. Thomas loved it all. Then down to the children's section for some puzzles.
After Thomas hailed another cab we went back to the train and back to Elmhurst for a nice supper and some TV. It was a fine presidents day!!
